However, one mistake I see time and time again — even from experienced fishermen in Phoenix and Northcroft — is incorrect hook orientation on crayfish gear.

Let me be direct about this: your crayfish gear hooks must face upwards for correct rigging.

This is not a minor detail; it is the difference between a full bucket and a frustrating day on the water. When the hook point is oriented upward, it sits proud of the bait or lure and catches the crayfish’s shell or carapace on the take. A downward-facing hook, by contrast, tends to deflect off the shell or push the bait away, resulting in missed strikes and lost catches.
